Center Drive Rachet
« on: September 14, 2012, 12:56:53 PM »
Some one the other day, posted a 3/8 ratchet with a center drive (I can't find it now) and it reminded me of the one I have that was made by Craftsman.  I bought it in about 1962 or 3 and have used the heck out of it.  I have often wondered why I never have seen another like it,  But after looking it up the other day, I find they were only made for about 3 years back in the early 60's.  I thought you might like to see it.

They are getting harder to find and the eBay price has gone way up,,, depending of course on condition.
Herbrand also makes one too.
Maybe Herbrand made them for Craftsman?

Gee whizz Mel!!
Should have started this post with...........

"Well I ran out of rifle bullets, so I thought I'd just go ahead and kill you all with this story and picture".

Wow, you owned it since the early 60's? And got a lifetime of pleasure out of it?
That is worse than the tool itself!!
Just owning the tool is bad enough though.

Hats off Boys!!!  The man ----really---  sux!!!! 8^)

Heck Scott, I still have most of the S&K socket set my dad gave me for my 18th birthday back in 1959.

I like that ratchet, now I wish I'd taken the one I saw a few years back.  That is, bought it.  Nothing odd about hanging onto tools,  I have the Handy Andy carpentry set that came to me at Christmas about 1957, and most of the tools of the used set my dad bought for my 16th birthday.  I also have hung onto the set of Craftsman his brothers bought for him in 1947, even have the box.  Of course theres a few that were sown somewhere on the farm.

It would be nice if some American tool company would make some of those nowadays. In several drive sizes would be nice too.

Did those speed wrenches come in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive? The Herbrand I have is 3/8 drive.

As far as I can tell, they were only made in 3/8, but then the one I have is the only one I have ever seen.
