That should be 7/16".  Did someone modify it somewhere down the line?

It's 3/8" drive, and I see no reason to believe it was modified.  In fact, you can still see original plating around the square drive working end.  If modified, they did an excellent job!.

Can you get a close up pic of the model number?  AA shows 39976 as a 7/16 drive but does not show 34976 for 3/8 drive.

It is black lettering on black handle which is next to impossible for me to capture.  I'm no photographer, and have limited resources in my photography.  Digital camera died with the shop project, and I use an Android phone for my camera now.  Using a sidewalk for a backdrop on a nice shiny day is my best picture.....and never great.  That said, here is my best try.

Thanks for posting the pic.  I can see the numbers clearly.  That's a new one on me as I've never seen the 34976 but have seen a few and had one 39976, 7/16".

Any time you run into a low contrast situation like that try this trick:

Rub a contrasting color crayon (the kind they use in construction) over the lettering, rub your finger lightly over the lettering to remove any excess crayon, then take your picture.  All is well with your photo. 

I've found yellow or white construction crayons work well with most background colors.

You have to use the "macro" setting on your camera, Bob. And Gary's trick will help too!
