Gotta be a better way on this forum 02-19-2013

There are way too many posts with the same title to keep track of an item and conveniently come back to it.

Only suggestion I have is to at least add the date in the title of the post.

You can click "Notify" above the thread and you will be notified of responses.
Dating the OP is one way, I guess.

New Title for Post

Not sure if it works on this forum, but on some forums you can add a title (see above) when posting and the original author can change the title using 'Modify' when a response is found...

Just tried searching for 'New Title' - search does not appear to check titles of post, just the body (is this something the Administrator (Papaw) can change??) or have I not set 'Search' to search in titles (if not how do I set this??)

Search only searches for the words searched for.
There is very little I can change with this software. It is "Free", so not as much latitude as Vbulletin and others.
Seems to me that "Notify" should serve for what Aunt Phil wants.

It does work if you try hard enough - you may have to reset the search parameters to include titles as well as messages - but just found this post by searching for 'title' - answer is to change the 'Subject' in the 'Post Reply' either when posting, or by going back into the post and using 'Modify' - try searching for 'Newtitleforpost' (as above) when you find it you will have cracked it!!!!

If the person posting, or someone answering, doesn't change the title, you can always bookmark the post by adding your own title and comment if you think that you may want to refer back to it at a later date.... Just as I am doing/have done...

Sorry Pawpaw but Notify don't make it happen unless there is a new post to the thread.

Bookmark doesn't really cut it either.

There needs to be distinction in the title beyond "what is it" and simply including a date would be very helpful.

Fine by me if posters want to do that.

I am perhaps one of those who has been guilty of using the same title over and over again, e.g. Yesterday's Find and Today's Find.  Hereafter, if I ever post anything in the future, I will use the format Date Find.  Date will be militarily expressed: 22FEB13 Wrench Find.

Don't feel bad, there are *hundreds* of US patents titled only 'Wrench.'
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Gang,

For the record-- I don't mind adding a date and a little more description to my threads.  In fact, I've been doing this for some time now on the GG; and, for the very reason Aunt Phil mentioned.
