A wrench similar to that is used on old IH Crawlers to undo a big nut on the final drive.  Did you look for any marks on it?

In our trade we call those guys that can handle big wrenches fitters.  If someone can't handle the 36" wenches, how are they going to be able to handle the big wrenches in the air?  We are partial to aluminum wrenches, though.
