Had to work today so my wife went to a few yard sales and came home $5 poorer, but scored a fairly nice Stanley Tool Box and I was wondering if anyone knew how old it might be?  Has a holder for a hand saw in the lid, but no evidence of a top tray despite the two flanges on the left side.  The other stuff amounts to a Barcalo, a Williams and a couple of no names.  The coping saw is strictly right angle cut but no logo on it.

TIA

I don't see a 891 listed in the old Walter's pocket guide, I'll have to dig deeper in the big book. Now if I could only get my wife to go yard sales for me.

Nice finds.

891 is a Stanley Defiance tool chest. Manufacturer around 1950. Originally contained 17 tools. Walters listed value at $30-60 empty. Does not list what tools were originally contained. Hope this helps. Congratulations to your wife for the nice find.

Here is a link to a 1962 ad and if you have good eyes you can see that item "G" is listed there as a 819-2 "Stanley Fix Up" set. Not the exact one you have but it looks pretty close.

My wife has been sufficiently stroked by the listees, so I should get some more shopping should the overtime continue.  I guess the weird thing about this tool box is that there's no handle on the top, but two side handles instead.  Thanks for the catalog page link, it really does look close.
