Strange Ax

Thought I would share this strange looking ax I pulled out of a barn this past weekend. I've never had one like this. Seems to be an ax/brush cutter combo. Ax head is smaller in length than a conventional ax. Interesting.

Ive never seen anything like that. My best guess is that it was homemade but I could be wrong.

Can you tell if it was cast that way, or the sickle part was welded on?

It seems to me that I saw this on a website and it is a form of bill hook.  When Billman49 checks in, he'll know...if anyone does.

It's all one molded piece. I searched good for any maker name or markings and there was not any to be found. It's not homemade.

I found 2 of these on the web. One site listed it as a fire brush ax, it does have some of the original red paint left on it. There is also one listed on ebay as an old farming tool, badly rusted. It's not hand forged as the ad states. He wants 425.00 for it. Good luck.

Is the curved piece sharpened? or just pointy?

We used them foe cutting roots when digging ditches .We called them grub axes   bob w.
