Belated FLea Market/Yard Sale Report
« on: September 28, 2013, 02:09:45 AM »
Only a week late, but better than next year I guess.  It sucks when you misplace your digital camera and you can't photograph your finds for the week.  Shirley's Flea Market was full of vendors, but other than a few crumbs here and there, I was the only one selling tools of any quality.  Rain kept me from setting up Thursday as I had planned, but Friday was kind to me as driving out there, I stopped at a couple sales and the first one on 12th st. was run by a couple of elderly gals and they thought a small box of SK 3/8" drive deep walls was worth $2....and.  Several other SK and Snap On sockets and wrenches for .25 each.  Spent $16 and  really didn't want to re sell any of it.  Getting there as they opened helped a bunch.  Friday sales were off and on, but well worth setting up  out there.  Had several come back after sniffing around the grounds and realizing the obvious.  One guy cleaned me out of all my V series DBE's.

Saturday, I got my wonderful wife to babysit the store while I went to the local Catholic Church auction to see what they had I couldn't live without.  One of the parishioners that I'm friends with was there and I gave him $50 to get what he could.  He only spent $29 of it, but the Dimalloy 4/6/8" set came from there for like $6, 3 virtually new Petersen Vise Grips for $11,  a dirty but very functional Wright 3/8ths" socket set(not real old since it had the plastic case), semi beat up Craftsman tool box for $2, and one other item that went for like $10.  Then headed for Hudson's estate sale (where I got a sneak peak at what was there earlier in the week)and couldn't believe that the "family" left virtually all the tools in the shop.  I had offered to help the gal price the tools, butt when she went another route, I LIKED HER PRICING BETTER!!!!  Picked up an old Snap On vintage metal 1/4" drive set with ratchet and most of the socekts(including a packing nut socket) for $2,  The Bonney deep walls with the holes in the drive end have to be old, and I'm hoping that Bonneyman can tell me/us if that green metal box is original or not.  Might be one socket missing. They were $2 also.  I spent like $60 there, but some of that was on 4 old oil cans and some old license plates for a friend.

Got back to the flea market and the only thing that showed up worth buying was a couple of hobby vises; one from Columbian and the other from Wilton.  Guy wanted $7 ea. and I didn't haggle.  Both of them will clean up nicely.  The Saturday sales came in spurts, but my last two customers, a pair of Hispanic gentlemen, spent like $`50 between them and were kicking themselves for not coming earlier, as I was packing up and trying to get back the the Hudson address to see what was left.  That sale had a really old Kennedy 36" top chest that was going to half price for $35 at noon, and I told the gal I'd take that if it made it to noon.  It didn't, so Se La Vie....

Oilt, that CARbureTOR thing is cool enough I'll prolly hang on to it unless it's a "honey hole" item....lol

LG; thanks for the French lesson and I have a few others.  I was thinking these were an offshoot of Wards and not the stuff made in Asia. the others I htink I fond in a pawn shop.  I'll try to shoot some later today.

I have not seen that many quality tools at the last auctions, fleamarkets and thrift shops combined!   How did you buy a Snapon quarter inch set with a staight face for two dollars?   I know, they just wanted it gone.

John:  These folks run a "transition" business franchise and although the "estate" sale is one facet of transitioning  elderly folks from a big house to assisted living or a smaller condo, it's their least favorite part of the process.  So, you are correct in your assumption. Those Plomb DOE's were a buck a piece, the Proto adj.'s a buck a piece, an SK 3/8" ratchet handle(no guts) for a buck, and SK 1/2" drive socket box for $2, 12" Klein Adj. for a dollar, the list goes on!!  I'm going to have to start carrying a gym bag to their sales, or else grow more hands and arms....lol

Master Craft - any relationship to the boat maker of the same name?

No, they were a brand sold at Coast-to-Coast stores with a very interesting connection to Canada that I do not yet understand.

More to follow!

Bonneyman,

Is that metal case the original case for those deep wall sockets??  I could do a better close up if you need it.  No markings on it at all, but pretty sure one size is missing.  Not really collectors material here, all of the sockets have a series of 3 light grind lines for ID on them....but they're still COOL!!!

Thank LG, I'll remove them from my  Ward's collection then.  I have a friend that owns a pattern and mold making Co. in Kansas that's named Mastercraft....and rightly so!!!

Interesting..

Mastercraft font looks very "Craftsman" to me

Not Sears but Stickley Craftsman, as in 'craftsman style' houses and furniture
