That should be a plow wrench. Used to measure the furrow as well as a wrench.
Many used it to measure fuel in the tank but that wasn't its purpose. Any other markings? The one I have is marked MH for massey Harris but there are many others.
-
No markings that I could see, will post clearer pic after the vinegar bath is over.
Thanks

Often seen on old Ford wrenches of a certain size, and many think it was to measure the fuel, but it is not, as stated above.

Dipping fuel tank is one school of thought, the other for measuring the dept of furrow on tractors with the new fangled three point linkage!!
Maybe it was for both? Sort for out here for the little grey furgy's (Ferguson)

There are a variety of these "furrow depth" measurement tools, domestic and foreign, out there.
From top to bottom in the picture below, a few more:
-Ferguson (stamped on larger jaw)
-Tang Yugoslavia
-MHF (Massey Harris Ferguson - MHF embossed on back)
-FoMoCo (acronym for Ford Motor Company)

heres another,,fergy spanner,,marked EN18
one side in inches, the other in centimetres.

OK, now mine is starting to look a little plain compared to these !
All good stuff to see and learn about, thanks.

OK, no markings on mine, just a good sturdy plow wrench.
Got to love a wrench that is 1/2 inch thick at the fat end !

There is also another variety marked "Harry Ferguson, Inc." on the main beam of the wrench. I sent one to Australia a few years back.

I have a couple of the Ferguson models. I read that the marks were intended to be used for adjustment measurements. It was the wiley users who came up with the fuel tank measurement idea. Some are marked in centimeters also. They were included in the tool kits of certain tractors and are in demand by those restoring their tractors down to the last detail.

keykeeper posted this link in the thread about a screwdriver identification. It shows a picture of the tool kit for one of the tractors (Ford N series) which included these Ferguson wrenches.

I don't think either of these are the $1000 models, but if they are, I guess I could let them go for just 7 or 8 hundred.
