Before the old forum got nuked someone inquired about lacquer removal. I just had good luck with 100% acetone.

Yes and I believe the slightly less caustic lacquer thinner will work as well.  Lacquer is pretty easily dissolved so while painting any subsequent coat dissolves and blends into the previous coat.
