thank you Papaw,

you are doing a great job,  I never took to forums before finding tooltalk, it is the only one that I visit.

never been on facebook and never owned a cell phone.

And I was #1999, which happens to be my birthday!

Welcome all new members! Tool Talk has been around a long time and reached this number in the past, but a complete crash of servers in 2011 almost killed it. I was able to recover and restart Tool Talk in 2011 and we grow slowly, buy steadily with valuable membership.

Thanks papaw for leading the group. Always been great to be part of the forum.

I remember the crash back in 2011. I came home from school an couldn't get on. I messaged you an cliff a few times via Facebook. I wasn't happy hearing that the site crashed. Luckily we rebuilt :)
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

Fantastic!  Steady growth is a often a great indicator of success.
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....

How long was the forum around before the crash?

Papaw

I started it in 2006- From The Wayback Machine-

Tool Talk was a result of my desire to talk about old wrenches and my inability to find others on the net
to talk with. Wrench collectors were on the net, but I didn't know how to find them 15 years ago. I found
plenty of people talking about old tools, but they were mostly woodworkers. Saw and plane guys most often.
Scott G and Lynn Dowd were on the Old Tools List back then, and still are. Others there weren't interested in wrenches it seemed,
but I got some help from folks on a car forum- 67-72chevy.com , and started Tool Talk. After the crash of the
original Tool Talk, I had help from RLT , a quiet member of the forum. Many members from the original forum
returned, along with new ones. I like to think we have a unique forum that will last a long time.
I am constantly amazed at the quality of members we have.

The point of all this is that I now consider all members as family, and appreciate all the contributions
and support. The daily visits by regular members and the frequent visits by others make me proud of Tool Talk.

I visit several forums, and moderate on one of them; this is in my top three favorites.  The personalities and stories here make for a lively place, and the range of knowledge is amazing.  I'm not much a wrench guy - I use them plenty, but don't collect them - but that doesn't matter, because there's so much else here beyond wrenches.
