Found this one the other days at the thrift shop for $2.99....No makers mark but many of them don't. When they are in nice condition and the handles have that vintage character I find them appealing. This one maybe 50's-60's and to nice to pass up with a sharp unmarred nail puller with an old paint finish on the handle that has aged to that ivory color.

Nice.  I've stumbled over a couple of (which I think of as) Maydole pattern hammers, which have become my favorites.  David Maydole is generally, though not universally, credited with inventing the adze-eye clawhammer, and his early hammers look like the lower one in this picture:

So why do I have three or so other clawhammers?  Well, you never know...

Refurbished hammers make great gifts for the neighborhood kids and my and my brothers' grandchildren.
Everyone needs a hammer, a handful of nails, and a 3 foot piece of lumber to pound them in.

Exactly....My brothers kid is not even 6 yet so if I have a few extra vintage tools I'll pack them off to him for his 8th birthday and he can try his hand at a tree fort!
