That's the first "fluted" plumb bob I've ever seen. The accuracy may be a little problematic what with the blunt tip.
However, I would think an enterprising fellow could probably run it across a grinder and fix that. It might be more of a challenge to get it to hang straight. But than the guy using this for a "bob" may not be aware that they are supposed to hang straight...or for that matter that they have a sharp point.

You should think of this as a mult-purpose tool; when you don't need it for its described features, you could use it as a pipe reamer.

I hope Plyerman sees this. I'll bet he doesn't have a multi-tool like this in his collection.

But note that it's made of lead - a little soft for reaming pipe.

We need a "really puzzled face" image...

Will wonders never cease. I'm trying to figure out if the other plumb bob is actually a plumb bob too. It looks more like a sash weight for a window.
A person who could really read human minds would be privileged to gaze on some correct imitations of chaos.

I think the other one's a plumb bob, though not a great design: the string may not come consistently out of the center of the diameter of the bob, a bad practice.

I think the other one is one of those tank depth gauge tools that would hang from a steel tape measure that you drop into a tank of oil/gas or other liquids. I think Starrett made one.

Hello, Lewill2. You may have it. Starrett No. 515C, Solid Brass Plumb Bob for Oil Gaging Tapes, 1" diameter, 6-3/4" long. Now, if the seller thought the reamer was made of lead, I wonder what this will be aptly named. Regards, Lou

Somebody must have given him a heads up; the reamer is a "reamer" now and it is no longer made from lead.
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.

That was me.

Had it been a valuable tool, I'd have kept my mouth shut, so some clever tool collector could scoop it up.
