This ACE Professional tap and die set by Hanson USA was at auction today.  Did not plan to buy it as it was missing some items.  However, when the auction bid stopped at $20.00 I bid and got it for $22.50.  Took it home and got out my file drawer of tap and die junk and worked to fix it up.  All the dies are now ace and all but four of the taps which are greenfield tool and die.  Still have to clean it up.

nice.   i think that would have followed me home, too.

Both the top and the bottom are single oak boards one inch thick.

Or even metal. I emailed SK a couple days ago about getting a replacement insert for my old 1314 1/4 set, and they told me they stopped making the metal box 10 years ago. I mean, come on, a blow molded plastic case for $200 worth of sockets?  That's the same for the $400 ones.

Great job on using the extras to make a complete set. When I have a socket set; it's gotta be 100% Craftsman or 100% SK or whatever's on the box and what most of the stuff is. But when I need a socket and it's not there; it's better filling it out with whatever I had (be it Proto, Challenger, or even Taiwan/China) handy until I can find the right sockets.  Just the other day I needed a 3/8 socket; and it was not in my 1314. Guess I'll have to order one; and at $8--OUCH!
