A few years ago Roy Underhill did show on old saws and he had one at the shop. It was invented right after the Civil War and the company advertising included testimonials from one legged veterans who could saw 3 cords a day. I think I'll keep my Stihl.

Donnelly's had them in his auctions at least twice when I've been there.  Neither was as nice as yours. It looks like it just came from the store.

Need help..... If you have 1 of these saws WITHOUT a hole drilled at the END of the blade please contact me.
There is a cast fitting that clamps on at the end of the blade i'm missing and want to reproduce it. It accepts a rod that runs thru a cast fitting on the wood beam that helps stabilize the blade tip. tia.

For those who want to stand up while they buck logs for the stove, and don't feel like humping the logs up on a sawbuck.  I'm not altogether clear if it adds any mechanical advantage - doesn't seem like it.  That one's in cherry condition.
