I believe this may be a store, or salesman's , display piece. The wall of the chuck is cut away. Oddly enough, I found a photo online, so I am guessing what I have is a heavy duty keyless chuck!

Yep' Albrecht chuck, quality tool. Nice find, always wondered what was inside. Now I understand how it comes apart...thanks

After seeing what you found  here, I was favorably impressed. That display piece; "The Visible Chuck" is priceless.  I found a few of these ALBRECHT 130 J6 Chucks in good shape. They sure are solid, well built.
