$5 estate sale bucket buy.  I wasn't sure what was in the bucket, but I saw some small metal rules, calipers, and dividers, so I added the inexpensive spring clamps and the HF digital caliper to round it out.  When I pulled everything out to look at it, I found 5 Starrett tools, a Craftsman caliper, and some other goodies. I put a new battery in the digital caliper and it worked perfectly.

Well, that's pretty decent suckage.

High complements indeed!  Thanks.  The family was emptying the house.  Things were going cheap.  It looks like someone emptied a tool box into the bucket.

One of the best items from the $5 Bucket Buy is this L.S. Starrett No. 124 inside micrometer.  Decent shape.  Cool tool. It required cleaning.  Every piece was covered in a sticky crud. The recommended cleaning method is a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol.

I've got two inside micrometers and, not being a machinist or rebuilder of cars/motorcycles/steam or diesel locomotives, have yet to find a use for them.

But that's a pretty set, and a great price.

It cleaned up well.  I'm the same.  I'm not a machinist and don't expect to pick it up.  Completely unexpected find in the bucket.  It was in a filthy plastic sleeve.

Hello, Yadda. Great find on the tools! I like your cleaning method with the rubbing alcohol , will give that a try on future cleanups!

Another item from the $5 Bucket Buy.  This is Craftsman No. 40257 Vernier Caliper.  Manufactured by MG SPA in Italy.  I believe that is Mitutoyo Tools.  These were sold between 1970 and 1973, making this tool over 50 years old.  I know little about machinist tools, but this has the look and feel of a nice quality tool.

Certainly higher precision than the General calipers I've found at sales; still, mine are useful for the work I do.

That's really all that matters.
