This is a new one on me. It appears to be self heating, although I'm not sure how it would work. It has a September 9, 1903 (I think that's how it should be read) patent date on it, was manufactured by Emmelmann Brothers, and measures 22 inches long.

I find several on Google Patents, but not just like yours. Some had a reservoir of molten solder that could be dispensed as needed.

The 9'th isn't an issue day for Sept, 1903, but the 29'th is,
so I assumed the goober in the middle of the date is a mangled '2'

And so here it is, patent 740,112, Issued to F.G & H.R Emmelmann on Sept 29,1903....

What a beauty! You would have needed a strong wrist to use that all day. I wonder did it come with two heads?

I found a couple ads, and a writeup. It doesn't seem to have come with a 90 degree head like the patent. It was advertised as a combination soldering iron and blowtorch. I assume you take the copper out to use it as a torch, and the 90 wouldn't work well for that. It was initially sold with a small copper, the large one was added (1905) (it then came with both) to allow roofing to be soldered. (The fellow in the photo above is soldering tin roofing together).
Holds 8oz of gasoline....good for 1 hour 'heavy use'
Also notes that the head is cast steel, the copper is made from drop forged copper bar, and the body from bronze alloy...

I wonder if that is an asbestos wrap under the cooling grille?  Seems to me it may get a tad warm after a couple of hours.  Looks like its pumped up by the handle, just like a pressure lamp.  What would the OSHA rating be on this?  LOL.
