I saw this on another site this is the only picture they showed any ideas? Hedge trimmer or??

I certainly wouldn't trim my beard with that!

I thought it looked like JAFE's grooming tool.

Maybe a topiary tool?   

How long is the cord?

Since to me it does not look like an outdoors tool, how about a tool for trimming and defuzzing Ultra-Shag carpet?

I'd be pretty happy if it could trim the "ultra-shag"  hair that I have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I don't own a comb, hair dryer, or anything else..... but, I've got to cut off some of this hair ......  maybe that's the tool I need!

No idea how long the cord is other then what the picture shows. An update from the site I pulled the picture from says that it might be a tool for removing/cutting casts off. Casts like broken arms/legs. I still don't know if that is correct or not.

I saw it on that site also, lewill. I don't think it is for cast removal, either.

Why would it have the "combs" along the outside edge if it weren't for trimming something??

Makes no sense as a cast cutter to me, though.

I think pieces are missing that if were present would take the mystery out of it.

Makes no sense to me as a cast cutter either.   The combs wouldn't seem to serve any purpose for that job.  They look like they would actually get in the way.  Looks like something was held by the combs and the rotary blade cut them off.  The blade makes me think of rotary lawnmowers.

Must be for trimming the grass under your Bonsai tree!

The thing was certainly manufactured prior to UL or OSHA.

Unless somebody finds a better answer, I think this is an electric, rotary hedge trimmer.   For a post UL or OSHA example, check:

That deffinitly made me smile. OSHA can be a pain in the but sometimes.

I visited with my 89 year old g'ma yesterday and made it a point to take a picture of this with me.  She says "YES, I already know it's old like me by looking at it and that cord - I've never seen such a thing.  Was it used as an edger?"  She is still very much of good mind.
