How do yall like her? Picked her up at the pawn shop on way home from work? Any thoughts or info?

Sandvik!   Good Swedish steel, and from what I've read, a good reputation.   When I saw the new Axe thing, was thinking you had come up with a big old double bit axe, but the short handled one will be handy too.

Ditto, Sandvik always made decent tools :)

Now all you need is a cherry tree....
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Agreed! Sandvik is really good.

I would have bought it (it was likely short money); good stuff...

Looks like we got a chorus going here.  Sandvik is about as good as it gets.  I have Sandvik paring chisels that take and hold a 15 degree bevel.
Got a couple of Sandvik saws, too.  Very good stuff.

Sandvik mines the best natural iron in the world.
Everybody else had to work like mad to make great steel. The Turks with their Damascus and the Spanish with their Toledo, and the Japanese?  Were all merely going to ludicrous lengths to make good tools from pitiful iron.
The Swedes/Finns never had to.

Dixon, Henckels, Victorinox, Chicago... every good professional grade chef's knife is actually made from Sandvik steel. Lots of better manufacturers are finally owning up to, and bragging, about that fact now. Sandvik make the only stainless steel worth having, period.

I'd say $8 was a good price for quality!

Sandvik has been acquired by Bahco it seems.  There are a couple of 1 1/4 pound Bahco hatchets on eBay right now, one for $31, and the other for $44.  Found them from some company page for $40.   Eight bucks is really cheap for a good hatchet!

You won't ever have to buy a new one.  You will be able to pass this on to one of your children or grand children,
