This was in a box of Ford "T" tools I bought. I found that Luthy made spark plugs, but not sure what this was used for. Since the old plugs came apart, I guessed it may be to pull porcelin out of plugs, but not sure. 1917 pat. date.

Luthy also made other automotive related things like piston rings etc...

Believe it or not, that scary tiny thing is a valve lifter....can you say bruised knuckles?

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

This valve lifter was originally the "Tu-Ford" valve lifter, made by the Tu-Ford Valve Tool Co, Bay City, Mich. F.A.Luthy Co. Jackson,Mich took over production in 1922 according to Automotive Industries (V47,Pg 699)

Better pic, it was only 75 cents in 1919.....

Thanks, that clears it up. I just don't see how two fingers would do that. T valve springs must have been like slinkys.

Gotta remember that the Model T was wound tight at 2,000rpm, and what, a 3.50 compression ratio?   A person can compress the springs with a carefully aimed screwdriver.    With the fuel and oil and lack of valve stem seals of the 1920s, valve jobs were common at 20K miles or even less.
