M canine alarm system woke me this morning and when i turned on the flood lights there was a bear halfway up the front steps to the deck.  when i switch the light a couple of tines he/she left in a hurry no pics / It was not a big bear but it was no baby either. that makes about 10 bear sitings that have been close to the house and at least that many within 50 yards of the house. they are getting bolder along with the coyotes   bob w.

I'd feed them.......a 12 ga. slug! Then I would eat their flesh, and wear their skins! They are delicious slow cooked in homemade BBQ sauce....lol.

Know of several folks around here that have been seeing them on a daily basis.
They're getting like the deer, they're used to seeing humans and only run if they feel threatened.
Wait til one of them come thru a window and invite themselves to dinner.

Does this mean you don't leave just the screen closed at night?   Glad I have no bear problems here, once had a vicious possum on the porch eating catfood.

Did you ever see a possums teeth up close? They are thin and long amd they curve back towards the throat . Once the sink thier teeth into something it can only go one way . When we had the farm a possum bit into a pig . We had to pry his mouth open after we shot him  to get him off the pig ,If you ever shot right next to a pig then tried to catch him you are in for a circus , possums are one of the filthiest animals I have ever seen they will eat thier own secretions if it was on the meat . they will eat meat that dogs and coyotes leave alone because it is rotten, Possums are the lousiest and bug infested things that god put on earth . As you can tell I do not like possums and I purpostly run over them if they are on the road,  bob w.

I just read an piece in the news about bears starting to be more bothersome, and they suggested keeping a can of Wasp spray handy to squirt them with,  works on other kinds if intruders (men) also,  They said the Wasp spray has a range or nearly 30 feet.

I would rather have tools I never use, than to need a tool I don't have.

...tho...you would be surprised how fast a ticked off bear can cover 30 feet....
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

No bears here but plenty of possums, and this guy turned up on our back doorstep the other day. He's a good size King Brown snake, if this guys strikes you then your in real trouble.

this grin and bear it is getting to be a pain in my butt. 4:00 this morning our early canine warning device went off -- momma bear with two very large cubs came through our yard  AT 4: 45 the alarm went off again   big daddy( i think) came through with his nose on the ground tracking the first three. I believe in preserving wild life but how about rabbits, squirrels or chipmunks  for a change   bob w.

Yep, possums need to die. Period.

Snakes that close to the house need to die also. Period.

I live in town, so shooting things isn't tolerated too well, but let them get THAT close to my home.....it's on then. I don't care what happens after. Even wild animals need boundaries!!!

My wife has a serious fear of snakes, and rightly so. She was bit by a Copperhead at the age of 11, right on the big toe. The @$#*&^ thing was IN the house she lived in. I would have burnt the daggone house down, or at least blown a few holes in it. Any snake in the vicinity of our house gets the one-way trip to creepy-crawler hell. If she even sees a live snake, she will get physically ill from the fear of it. Not fun at all.

Bears are kind of at the top of the wildlife food chain. They are smart problem solvers and don't have any predators in the modern world. Maybe Mr. Chuck might have a better idea, but I would head for the nearest zoo and beg for a garbage bag of Lion droppings.  The patio would smell like a big cat pan for a while, but it might be a put off for the bears.

I have an idea, why dont we just kill em all, after all this is our planet and we were here waay before any of them were.....wait, sumpthin just dont sound right there

P.S sorry to hear about your wife, my wife was burned as a child with battery acid badly on most of her body, she worked at her fathers business in the Phillipines repairing batteries and a worker got careless.

She dosent however thankfully want to outlaw batteries so please give the snakes a break. I dont care for them either BTW
Always looking for what interests me, anything early Dodge Brothers/Graham Brothers trucks ( pre 1932 or so ) and slant six / Super six parts.
