Unique set of pliers that I got a week or so ago...can't imagine the mini head making much of a dent in anything, but they still look cool.

Hey, I got a set of those too! Like you say, questionable usefulness, but cool none the less. Here's what I have in my notes about them (I think some of this I got from Datamp)

National Plier Company (somewhat ordinary pliers, with a hammer head cast on one side. Hammer/pliers/cutters/screwdriver. Nickel plated steel. Patent #871,585 awarded to Christopher J. Haeberli on 11-19-1907. Patent drawing had a pick opposite the hammer head that does not appear on the production model, nor is nail lifter present on end of one handle. Stamped NATIONAL PLIER CO., INC. BUFFALO, N.Y. PATD NOV. 19, 1907)

Good enough to make a great dent in your thumbnail...

From a bit of poking about in the archives, National Plier got off to a slow start, not Incorporating untill 1920, and then didn't live very long, a victim of the pre depression great labor strikes....*

There is a hint they were offering pliers to auto owners as aftermarket toolkit tools..
I suppose the little nib would be ok for hammering cotter pins or such...


*Many companies that failed in the depression years actually failed before the big crash...
