These pliers say patent pending, but I can't see a makers mark. Does anyone know if a patent was ever awarded, or who made these?

I'm thinking another set of glass pliers, if the jaws remain parallel.

I think it is a saw set? ... Very similar to many I saw (and took one home with me) in Belgium. I was told they were "To fix the blades of scissors", but I don't think that was quite the right word he was looking for.

The jaws look too narrow to be glass pliers, and why the spring?  Saw set crossed my mind too, but I think we need some pictures taken from  different angles to identify this.

Assuming they are the same as mine, the screw adjusts how far the handles can close and the spring holds back the other much smaller moving jaw. The 2 long portions don't move, and then you can squeeze down a little jaw into the more open section (Maybe more open so that you can then slide out the now angled tooth?)

question.  are staples or drilled holes and wire holding  the pliers to the plywood?

I agree with Mac, I think it is a saw set also.

Bob, I think it looks like holes were drilled and they used wire to mount them to the board. It looks like drill chuck dimples around the wire holes.

All of the tools in the collection have been wired to the wall to prevent them disappearing. Hopefully there will be time to find a better solution for next summer. There is way more stuff to do here than three employees and a few volunteers can keep up with.

Saw set - this type is common in Europe, especially Germany... Image shows a pair next to the UK type made by Eclipse.

I went and looked at the object in question again last week. The jaws don't move. Squeezing the handles causes a projection (about a quarter of an inch long) to move through the jaws(sorry I'm not describing this very well) I wish I could get them off the wall to check the other side for a manufacturer's name but that's not an option right now. Hopefully we will be able to do more with the collection this coming summer. There must be a better way to display them without making it easy for the pieces to be stolen?

Sorta sounds like a button tool, jaws stay put, a pin pushes through, the pin was to squish over tabs inside the button to lock it to the fabric, several variations on button fastening pliers exist....

Could also be a special rivit tool....

That's how my sawset works as well. Pretty positive that is what it is.

Yes, saw setting pliers - try Google images and then try 'pinces à avoyer' (FR) or 'Sägenschränkzang' (DE) for more images to confirm this is a pattern common in Europe...

A fancier model (about to end on eBay) that I think we had other pictures of here on tool talk not long ago.
