Hello, I have just become a member and would like to introduce myself. I live in the UK and have over the last year had an introduction to old tools which has amazed me. The male side of the family have all been carpenters and I never took much notice of what tools they used, to me they just did the job. Now that I have inherited most of the tools used I began to appreciate the beauty in the making of them. I am woman who never thought she would be excited over finding an Spiers bull nose plane or an old Preston spoke shave let alone know what they are. I have slowly been working my way through all these tools and have found some unusual items, or makers name that I can't find any details about (John Wilson Brace). I would like to share some photos and see what light anyone can throw on them.

Welcome Nessie.  I haven't yet been able to work with a Preston spoke shave, but I've been impressed by their appearance.  What sort of brace is the John Wilson?  And possible dates?  There's a mention of Increase Wilson and braces (second paragraph) at:

   If you're dealing with such names as "spiers"  and " preston" ..  you're way above my league!!!!  You have some BEAUTIFUL STUFF.   I am JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I am curious about the "john wilson brace."  I think there is an old company that made braces under the name "Taylor..... which was born out of the Wilson Mfg.Co.......  but, you should probably ask everyone else on this sight!!!
      Anyhow, I'm very excited that you have noticed the incredibly detailed work that persons used to put into their tools.
       You'll like it around here!  I lived in Oxford for a bit...... but, that's the extent of my UK life. I'm glad to have a woman join the sight because the men on here are awful, extremely mean......  I AM KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   The folks here are the best you'll find.
