Called a week-old ad in the paper that advertised "tools" and struck a nice vein of woodworking tools.  Old 1960's Craftsman Router 315.25031, a bunch of accessories, and a nice stash of gouges from Craftsman, Master Mechanic, and Buck Brothers.  I know very little about woodworking, but if some one needs any or all of this, please PM and it will stay off of ebay.  I may keep the router.  It's quiet as a mouse, unlike my 90's plastic version of the same tool.


BTW, does anyone know if the Master Mechanic gouges are made in the US or not.  Having trouble getting info on them.  All the gouges are in great shape BTW. 

Last question:  What is the purpose of that little tool sitting cross-ways on   the gouge handles??  It has no markings on it at all.

You --ought to-- like that router.
That model, with those accessories, cost about $700 if you translated it into today's money.
Those industrial models were very expensive for their time and so were the accessories.

The gouges are lathe chisels.  Master Mechanic was a house brand name for one of the hardware chains.
Made in USA is all but assured on these.
The Sears chisels look like some of the first high speed ones. Probably from the late 60's early 70's.
Sears went to high speed steel, but at the same time they reduced the size of the chisels pretty badly. Thin and stubby.

Scott:  I have another Sears Router from a little later on that says"Commercial" on the top.  It has the crown logo on it, so is that also one of the "premium" routers in the chain?  I'm selling it locally and wonder if I'm asking too little for it?  The photo is of it upside down attached to the metal table it came with...

In the third picture there's a mortsing chisel.  I could be interested in that -- what size is it?

Branson, If I'm guessing right, you're talking about the thing that has the drill bit inside of the square thing with the 4 points on the bottomt??(yeah doncha hate newbie to the wood forum??!!).  That "size" is a 7/16" on the square pat and the bit is either 5/16" or 19/64ths.  I did find a small crack in one side of the flat wall and the recess by the 4 points are mushed out ever so slightly.  I think a file dressing might clean that up.  If you still want it, I be up for trading some equivalent Plomb tools that you have extras of.  I'm not sure this item merits a double headed Crescent wrench, but if you are in a generous mood......lol

315 prefix is Emerson Electric, who also now owns dremel.....hehehe
