I bought one  those tools back in 1992 when I was restoring a 1941 Chevrolet.  It is a staking tool for installing the grommets in the doors that the door handle goes through.  You put the grommet through the hole from the outside and then insert this tool into the grommet from the outside and squeeze the handle.  The little sharp finger goes out and bends the grommet edge out so it is fastened into the hole...I hope you are able to understand my description.   Actually I bought it by default, as they sent it to me for a $25 deposit and I never returned it.

The patent drawings call them door handle ferrules, but yes that is what it is/does.  I have had 2 or 3 of them before this one, and about 25.00 plus shipping is what I usually get.

I didnt have a clue and gooogled it earlier and still didnt understand how it would work. Thanks Mel for your explaination it helped!
