EDIT 5-12-13: It's been a year and a half since I posted this so I thought I'd give it a bump. And better pictures.

I've had this screwdriver in my collection for a while and from time to time I wonder where it came from, or whom it was made by? It's stamped with A HAND WITH THE LETTER "D" INSIDE. The overall length of the screwdriver is 15-1/8".  Anyone? Thanks...

Another question. Occasionally I go through my Photobucket album and do a little housekeeping, and sometimes things I intended to keep get inadvertently deleted. Knowing that, does this web site prefer that I upload pictures directly, or host them remotely like I did with these?

Either way is good, but remember that if your Photobucket account is changed or compromised, the hosted photos will be lost to us.

Ok, thanks. That's what I needed to know. Some sites get all uppity about storage space and picture hosting. But maybe that was in the past. :)

I can do a little guessing....

I assume the hand plus the 'D' was for 'Handee"

A company named E.E. Delmann of chicago was selling hammers with the name 'Han-D' back around 1920, it was a hammer with 3 screwdrivers hidden in the handle.

I can not find a logo tho, so it's only a guess....
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Well, I thought I'd take a stab at finding that logo. No luck with the logo, but I did find this:

I do not know how I missed this picture but I would VERY much like to have this screwdriver if it is available.
Always looking for what interests me, anything early Dodge Brothers/Graham Brothers trucks ( pre 1932 or so ) and slant six / Super six parts.

For some reason that screwdriver looks like some of Scott G's work, pretty neat.

Another company turns up, no logo tho.
Hand-D was the registered mark of The  Ducharmes Company, of Shelburne Falls, Minn. (Aka The Ducharmes & Co;. F. E. Ducharme & Son) (~~1906)

This company at least made screwdrivers.
There is a picture of a rubber handle one in india rubber world that resembles the OP one, but half the screwdrivers from the 1900's look like that , so....

Edit: Bingo -  Paydirt on the alternate name....

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

If you are looking for old screwdrivers start looking at Martin Donnelly's July auction listings. There are several instant collection lots listed already. Lot 491, 554 & 691 for starters.

I just started to go through the catalog. It isn't finished yet but there is tons of stuff listed already.
