I don't know, but it looks like it would be a great truth tool to find out who "borrowed" a tool? Put a thumb in there, and they'll sing like a canary! he-he

It would be in my wrench collection!

Kind of depends whether you keep fruit jars in your tool box:)

Yes it is a jar wrench & they advertised the heck out of it a century ago.  I think that size fits the top of "zinc" caps, (the kind with the glass inner lid and rubber ring on the jar shoulder).
My wife has over a dozen different jar wrenches;  I should try them out to see which one fit regular Mason jar bands & which work best on the more obsolete closures.

I need more jar wrenches!!
I love jars, love wrenches, how far of a leap is it into jar wrenches?
Nobody ever offers me many though.
I never had a Triumph but I've seen them.

I have one that self closes on the cap with gears, as you turn the handle.
I can take pictures if you guys want??

I love it but would never try using it on a tight lid. Too fragile. Most of the jar wrenches are pretty frail.

I have a few jar wrenches I've picked up over the past few years, but none are like this one.

I have one like scottg's, turns to tighten with gears. Also have one that squeezes to tighten.

They are a neat curiosity, especially if you like old kitchen utensils and gadgets!!

Is the EDLUND TOP-OFF?  If so, look at DATAMP entry for patent no. 1,894,556 (http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?number=1894556&typeCode=0).
