I tend to be busier in the summer than in other times of the year, so, sadly, I have less opportunity to pursue tool bargains than I'd like.

This notwithstanding, I happened to see a couple of kijiji ads by the same fellow within minutes of his posting them on Monday morning and quickly realized I wanted most of what he had!

Now bucks are tight, so I actually decided I'd have to liquidate some inventory to help finance this new stuff as I will only be flipping one of the new purchases! Ack!

The story: I drove up to Orangeville (an hour north) to meet the seller at his rural home and spent 30 minutes chatting with the guy. It seems he is a recently-retired Air Canada mechanic and these tools mostly belonged to his now-85yo former boss - a German who arrived in Canada in 1957. They must have been in storage for decades as there is little sign of use on any of the items with the exception of the item I will be selling. The seller was a native of Liverpool who himself arrived in 1964 as a 17yo and, after bouncing around for a few years, ended up at Air Canada in Dorval (a suburb of Montreal) before moving to Ontario in the great anglo-exodus of the 1970s.

The loot...

Six large Snap-on Canada SAE combos (3/4", 13/16", 7/8", 1", 1-1/8" & 1-1/4") from 1954 and 1955. These are actually the oldest Canadian Snap-on production that have ever passed through my hands and I'd like to keep them, but, alas, flipping these will help pay for the rest.

There are three different logos on these wrenches, and I find that to be quite interesting! Was 1954-55 a transition period?!

The rest!

A nice KD 2370 Metric Ignition Set. I didn't have a metric ignition set and this one includes a screw starter and a metric feeler gauge.

A pristine Challenger by Proto CANADA Metric Combination Set 7mm-17mm in a tool roll. The tool roll is not as flawless as I took it to be in the seller's photo as the plastic is worn/rotted at the bottom on almost all slots. It is simply not as heavy-duty a roll as on the higher-end Proto brand, but it's cool to have nonetheless.

I had initially planned on re-selling these too as I have no need of another combo set, but I've changed my mind as I want to keep this flawless Canadian-made set and will sell some similar-quality sets from the collection to pay for these.

A perfect SK 86223 Metric Combination Wrench Set 7mm-22mm. This set should include a 6mm, but there isn't one (and there isn't room for it in the holder, so maybe it is a set no longer offered).

These Full Polish SuperKrome® wrenches match a SK 86226 Set of larger metric combos I found last year:

Then there was a SK 89009 21-Piece 1/4"-Drive 6 Point Metric Socket Set. 1970s vintage, I believe...:

Snap-on is always good, but I have a particular affinity for the Canadian-made stuff since it is no longer made here.

A Snap-on 211SFSY 3/8"-Drive Deep Socket Set, 6-Point (11 pcs.) (1/4" to 7/8"):

How about some Proto?!

An Ingersoll-Rand era Proto J3700M Metric Double End Flare Nut Wrench Set, 6 Point, 5-Piece 7mm-17mm:

I just love these tool rolls!

Better still, a Flying-Lady Logo Proto 3700A SAE Combination/Flare Wrench Set 3/8"-3/4"!:

And the only thing better than a Flying-Lady Logo set is a Canadian-made Flying-Lady Logo set!

A Proto 3200C Ignition Set (missing the file and the pliers, so if you have 'em, let me know!):

I paid more than normal for these at $250 as one does not come across this type of stuff very often and the condition is truly amazing! A further $15 added a three-piece set of Petersen (American Tool era) Long-Nose Vise-Grips in a tool roll and a massive 48oz. vintage Chanellock ball peen hammer:

Here's the Channellock posing with its 2oz. Blue-Point cousin!

Happy, happy, joy, joy!  ;)

I would say you did great on that buy. Nice sk stuff, those are absolutely great.
And I'm proud to be an American,

I didn't know that channel lok sold hammers. But a 48 OZ Like Chaq's Momma said when he was born. "Wow, that's more than I expected!"

Channel Lock made some really good hammers.  I found one of the blacksmith hammers (which surprised me, too) a couple of years ago.

Apparently...

Hardware Retailor, 1970:

"CHANNELLOCK Gives You More In Hand Tools Including (never loosen. ..never ?? HAMMERS with EPOXY-LOKT HANDLES...
Beautiful, red lacquered CHANNELLOCK hammers, full polished piens and faces..."

Gotta love 'Beautiful red laquer' ;P

PopSci (black and white, no beautiful red laquer visible ;P)
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Well, if my hammer was LOKT by EPOXY I can't see it, so perhaps it's from before 1970...

Ball peens were offered from at least 1965:

1967:

1969:

And they were offered until at least 1979:

But ball peens were very likely offered prior to 1965 to as claw hammers were made at least as early as 1930:
