This piece wasn't "tiger figured wood" but wanted to see how  it would turn out. The blade on this plane appears to have never been used.

Well, maybe.  But I have planes of about the same vintage that are even darker.  OK, so the color didn't come that way from the factory.  And?

Nobody is going to seriously howl over an Ohio jack plane, no matter what it is. :)
You have the color about what nature does when exposed and abused for 100 years, so no problem there.

This plane would be an absolutely ideal candidate to open the mouth up wide, grind a big radius on the blade, and use it for a wood hogging scrub plane.
  These planes are kind of in between a small iron scrub (the biggest biters of all) and a regular aggressive set jack plane.
  I made one from a much worse condition plane, but very similar, and I love it.   It will cut very thick shavings with wild abandon, and absolutely no effort at all.
 
  When you need to rough dimension a piece, or take the twist out of a board? Its magic. Something no power tool can do, and even if they could, you can beat the time with a "hungry jack" plane.
