Went to a junkyard today and saw this:

the hub looks like it says IR

might  be the end of a  car/truck chassis, or part of agricultural equipment, or even something industrial.

IR would say to me,  Ingersol Rand, but it  could easily be something else.

Any guesses what it is or who made it?

from the pic my guess it may have been a compressor/sandblaster on a dedicated trailer. IR made lots of compressors, could also have been some type of construction equipment.  looks like solid tires for use on a construction site or farm.

I'm going with air compressor, industrial, due to the springs.  Farm equipment rarely has any springs, only a few wagons in the 50s.   I'd have gotten it for the just plain interesting factor, with the hitch and all.  Looks like a junk yard I'd like to browse. 

Ingersol always spelled out their name tho, and the later logoized is IR in a circle, not overstamped...

I seem to have a vague feeling I have seen that logo before, truck maker???? (road machinery co? something )

Wire wheels, hot rivets, but square channel, it's old, but not high volume mass produced, and it had a saddle tank on the left (front?)

Saddle Tank?   I see a step down for the hitch, and a anti tip bar on the right.   Thinking back, guy in town had a roofing tar heater on a unit just about like this,  pulled it with his pickup.  It had a boiler affair and a pump to push the tar up to the roof.   

 Looks like old Ingersoll Rand logo to me. Googled vintage Ingersoll Rand logo and it shows I thru R in a square and that is what I thought I had seen sometime somewhere.

It seems very likely to be the frame from an older air compressor.

It's VERY stout, and the solid rubber tires are interesting.

I'm guessing 20's? maybe 30's

If it's reasonable, I may buy it to sell to the hit or miss engine guys.

 Didn't locate your buggy but found( I thru R) on side access plate on Ingersoll (PB) compressor (stationary). Found Ingersoll Rand products Vol 1 and it had much info on old compressors, drills etc. but most of it was on rail for mining applications. Some of their products provided wrenchs and some look like they could be confused with farm implement wrenchs,but they did not give any info on possible markings. An interesting read and since it said vol 1 I hoped to find further volumes but no luck so far. Thanks for posting this and getting me into some new ground. Maybe someone with better searching skills can find more info.
