I found an old plane (maybe a plow plane) at an antique mall.  It was stamped "Gabriel" on one end.  It needed some work, thumb skews were intact.  Don't know anything about these, but thought it was interesting.  The tag said early 1800's.  Think they were asking $20 or so.  Are Gabriel collectible at all?  Condition is rough.  Thanks for any info.

I'd have to check my reference material to see if Gabriel was a maker. It could just be an owner's stamp.

English maker, Gabriel 1770-1793 2 different locations.
Gabriel & Sons 1794 - 1796
Gabriel T. & C. 1814 - 1822

Seems he/they are commonly found English made planes. His Gabriel & Sons marked planes were in the Seaton Tool Chest.

An interesting thing about old wooden planes.   I've found many old planes with the Mfg. stamped on one end and the owners name stamped on the other end.

I saw an all wood core box plane at a pattern makers shop last week. There is a name on the end, but it is too faint to read. I will post a photo later. Anyone have any information?
