Well done.  I liked it before but your cleaning took it to a whole new place.

Papaw & Chilly,

Thanks for the kind words.

I have a basic set of cheap import body hammers that I bought about 30 years ago. They're ok but nothing to write home about.  But, whenever I can pick up a quality body hammer, especially specialized hammers that fit the kind of body applications I run into, I snap them up and cherish them.  They get used and they pay off in spades and pure enjoyment.

One of these days I'll gather up my vintage body hammer collection and take a family picture.  In the mean time, I'll be out looking for my first slap hammer and bumper straightening tool.

what does a bumper straightening tool look like?
A place for everything and everything on the floor

skip,

They are nothing to write home about, usually pretty ugly, all steel.

The bare handle end is usually straight and about 15-18" long, sometimes 24" long.  The business end usually has big curved offset and a tight U that actually grips the bumper.  These don't have any application on modern cars with plastic bumpers.  They were designed for older heavy steel bumpers and body flanges.

I'll see if I can find a photo of one or two in old tool catalogs.

oldgoaly,

Thank you for that photo.  Is that the MAC or the Cornwell version?  They both look like they were made by the same OEM.

it's a old pic from a discussion years ago on one of the metalshaping forums, I really don't know who made it.

I use a 36" or 24" pipe wrench, of course!

skipskip, OG, & Gang,

Here's a few more illustrations of bumper tools (also called flange tools and fender tools by certain OEM's); sorry about the poor quality and small size:

From MAC catalog, center of illustration, no. BT 252...

From Duro catalog, upper right corner, no. 1576...

From Thorsen catalog...

From misc. catalog...

Hopefully, you get the idea of what they could look like.
