That's all I can do as a description. This was found in a lot with a bunch of old tools so I'm posting it here in case it's actually tool related. I honestly have no clue.

Man-hole cover?  What's the diamater? Need some frame-of-reference as to its size.

Oops. Sorry. It's only 4" across. Thanks for the heads up. It was late. I was tired and I'm not that bright sometimes anyway.

Well wow. What are the chances. Now that you've said that I can see it quite clearly now. I'd love to see a picture of the whole thing.

I may have to go back to the thrift shop and see if the ashtray is somewhere in there....

The information that pops up in this forum is utterly astonishing. ;P
There are thousands of designs for ashtrays, I wonder how many weird parts I have shuffled through at flea's that were parts of antique ashtrays....hmm...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

I think that it's because folks who are drawn to tools have inquisitive minds, always wanting to know the why and how of a thing. Being drawn to vintage and antique tools indicates an appreciation of the arcane and unique aspects of our world.

Or I could be over analyzing and we're all just into cool stuff.
