I see lots of heads ups for neat stuff on ebay here.

But I am hesitant to bid on them , assuming that whoever listed them wants to buy.

so, what are the rules?

Can I bid?

Can you bid?

Can you outbid the first guy who listed?

Do we all have to let Papaw get them?  :)

Should I just sit by and watch ?

I think I'm the largest poster of ebay heads up on here. I can't speak for anyone else but when I post something it's usually because someone here was interested. If I spot a strange implement wrench or adjustable, I post it because I know there is interest here. I never bid on something I post, but sometimes someone else will post something that I'm bidding on and I will say "I'm high bidder" etc.

I think we should all let each other know if we are going to or are bidding on a posted item. LG and Fins have this arrangement in the catalog forum and it appears to be working.

 I  go along with that If I am bidding on something i will let the forum know . if all do   bob w.

If a member is bidding on an item at auction, and tells us so, We should stay out of the bidding. An exception would be when the member bidding states he or she is out of the auction or it has gone over his or her limit.
Generally when a member gives us a "heads up" , it is so that we might have a shot at something we may have not seen in our own searches.
Obviously these guidelines are just that, and Tool Talk has no right or authority to tell anyone not to bid. Good sense and comradeship should prevail.

When a person posts a heads up here they are posting it for all the world to see and so in some  instances it may make it more difficult for any one particular person to bid and win if he has seen the item himself.
I cringe when someone on the AACA forum posts a Dodge part that I am interested in because now I am bidding against some poeple that know me that will bid high just out of spite because maybe they dont like my sppeelling skills.
I say if someone saw an item on e-bay and they knew someone that would be interested send that person an e-mail or p.m because otherwise they really are not doing them a favor.
If someone puts a heads up here than to me it is clear they have no intention of its purchase

Mr. 1930 I have used the heads up and won/lost I have also been notified through pm have won lost i have notified when i am bidding and notified when i have won/lost. i have found the people on here as being of character to honor ones wishes as far as i know  .
now that that is said I Have to get back to cutting throats   lol  bob w.
oh yeah i am still looking for 4 and under adj. and now 3 in and under pliers (all kind of usa,germ.uk, no oriental )

Mr Ameritrac. It is a better thought ( in my opinion ) to keep in mind ( unfortunately but thats life ) that maybe you dont have to worry about the people on here that post regularily but I am pretty sure that there is at least double that amount of people that are lurking within the site, have never made a post and will not ever until it benefits them in some way, just gathering information for their own private purposes and so self involved that they are not caring to offer anything in return.
Those are the people that I would be more concerned with if you where at all concerned with winning an e-bay auction

In a perfect world, yes. In truth, some may not back off.

Auctions can be cutthroat, and are open to all bidders, friends or not. Personally, if a member is bidding and I know it, I will not bid unless that member says the auction is out of his price range, but is still in mine.

In addition, we all know that some have deeper pockets than others, and might have a greater interest in the item at a higher price, especially if the item is rare or is just the piece to fill a collection or set.

I still think we are watching out for each other by noting auctions, and letting each other know our interests and limits.

I no longer have an ebay account and have no plans to open a new one anytime in the next 100 years or so. But when I did use the site I would not bid against a fellow forum member if I knew he/she was bidding on something. 1930 brings up a valid point many lurkers or casual readers may have no such inhibitions.

This post is becoming comical, thanks for starting it skip, whats the old saying, keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.
