The knife discussions reminded me of an odd knife I found in my Great Uncle Walters' stuff twenty years after he died.
OAL 12 3/4", blade 6 1/4", but made of one piece full length. Plain wood scales with three rivets( copper or brass, judging by the green corrosion), and a spoon behind the scales. Width at handle is 1".

My first reaction was "Oh.  I've seen one of those!"  Now if I can remember where, and what it was for...

It could be a version of the "One Arm man's" knife that was made popular after the Civil War? All the ones I have seen had a fork/knife combo, instead of the spoon/knife like yours. Does it look factory, or home made? Very Interesting looking!

Factory made. The blade is like most kitchen knives in the cutlery drawer.

They still make them, the knife is so you can fillet the fish you were planning to catch on the fishing/camping trip. The spoon is for the canned beans you are going to end up eating after spending all day fishing in an empty pond....

The new ones come with plastic handles of course...dishwasher safe....

PS: OK,OK, the spoon end is for gutting the fish, I like my reason better...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Could be it. I'm no fisherman anyway.

Salmon gutting knife. The spoon was for scraping all the orange eggs out, after opening up the belly thru the anal vent.

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

I beg to differ with you Noel! I have become one of the Greatest Fisherman of all Time, and can Catch almost any Fish in any State, even Texas! Here is my secret, so don't tell anone else:

Step 1.) Go to your favorite Supermarket, and find the meat department.

Step 2.) Pick out a type of fish that you enjoy, including Salmon, and put it in your basket.

Step 3.) Pay for the Fish, take it home, cook it, and eat it!

You will save Money in Gas, Waiting for hours for a fish to bite, and all the Money you Invested in bait and Boo's ! Lol !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's a Viet-Namese story about a teacher who spent a lot of time fishing, but never seemed to catch a fish.  One of his students noticed he was fishing with straight hooks, and told him he would never catch a fish that way.  The teacher replied that he loved fishing, but that actually catching fish interfered with his contemplation.

LOL-That's why I only rarely go hunting any more. As soon as I pull the trigger, the fun is over and the work starts!
