Pawn Star Today!!
« on: December 29, 2013, 02:57:23 AM »
When our local Pawn Store Franchise has a 30% off sale on tools, I'm all ears.   It's been going on all month, even for the Snap On and MAC(which are usually excluded from these promos).  Their downtown branch had the 3/4" Dr. black oxide 5649 and both Proto LA's rat and Flex handle.  Hard to tell, but the latter two sure look like Pebbles, making them pretty early in the Proto line.  Also picked up a really nice SK 3/8" and a unique 3/8" Walden rat for $1.25 each, while 6 feet down the display, there was a 1/2" SK rat with a $17 price tag on it(minus the 30%).  GO FIGURE!!  Also picked up a 10" US John Deere adjustable for $5 since I didn't have one.  The SK and Allen extensions he sold me for 75 cents each.  Didn't have time to mill through the socket stash, as I wanted to get to their other branch before closing time.  Good thing I did, as they had some fresh goodies too.  The Herbrand, Hinsdale, and Fleet wrenches cost me $4 for the trio, and the Master Mechanic flex head 3/8" RHFT doubled my investment.  The V series RHFT, the Proto LA 5249, and the Plomb WF-39 slider were in a box of V Series C-man sockets along with a 1/2" V series C-man totaling maybe 35 pcs. that I won for $25 at a local auction a cople weeks ago.  Just these three in the photo made that bid worthwhile.  Last but not least, the OTC double flex socket I found for $3 at a consignment store chain in town later in the day.   BTW, the guts of the Pebble 3/4" rat are currently soaking in parts cleaner as they are pretty gummy.  The drive gear is almost perfect, so it should al go back together just fine.

Proto pebbles are not easy to find, at all!
They only made them for a short time and they are even harder to find than Plomb pebbles. A 3/4 Proto pebble? Is a rare thing.  I have only ever seen one other.
Parts you could rob off the black 3/4 Proto if you wanted.
But another Proto in worse condition, or a NOS kit,  will eventually show up. One good thing is that Proto to Proto, they mostly will always swap parts.
  Other brands maybe, maybe not.

       Dynamite score!
   yours Scott

Got the master mech. flex head  apart and it's in pieces.   uses the same fine tooth rebuild kit as the 43788 below it.  Those are available on ebay for like $15, but not sure if the stores still have any.  The male teeth on the MM rat in the head aren't be best either, so that project may get put on hold.  De greased the pebble Proto and it's purring like it should.  That Urrea rat would likely interchange guts with the 5649 if needed.

Back to the de-rusting tent.....
