MVWC Spring Meet April 4-5, 2014
« on: February 14, 2014, 09:59:16 PM »
Since we're about mid-way between NYC & SF on Interstate 80, & have way more motel rooms than one could reasonably expect for a town of 8,000 -- do consider making the trip to York, Nebraska for the 2014 MVWC Spring Meet.  The club meet is Friday morning, with the auction following on Friday afternoon & Saturday.  Dan Gaier has promised a program for the Friday evening banquet.

If you're not a club member & would like to know more, drop me a PM with your snail mail address before Feb. 20th  & I'll send the registration info.  This marks the 15th year for York's hosting the MVWC spring meet.

Also, "Bus" has the link open to his "catalog in progress" for the accompanying auction ( http://wrenchingnews.com/2014-york-auction/catalog.html ).   I see a couple listings  that have errors or need clarification & "Bus" wants to have the catalog as good as can be.

What motel do you all recommend out there? Remember, I like cheap, but not so cheap to be sleeping with bugs. Figure I better start thinking about reservations.

I'm afraid I don't know the price structure of the local motels.
"Bus" uses the Yorkshire, and some use the Super 8, which is tucked in behind a MacDonalds & ARBY'S.  The Palmer Inn is the oldest, and smallest.   The Hampton Inn is the newest.
The motels are all near the Interstate 80 interchange, about 2 1/2 miles south of downtown York.
We're roughly a day's drive out of Chicago & about the same to Denver; 600 miles south puts you in Dallas / Fort Worth.

Thank you both. I had been looking before, just wasn't sure if there were any to avoid never being out there before. I was studying the super 8 and the comfort I believe. I'll take your info and do some serious checking now.

We plan to be passing through with our camper back to the "cold north" that weekend. Can we park at the grounds? I don't expect any hookups.

There is some parking at the Super 8;  the Wal*Mart parking lot is used a lot by campers, trucks, etc.  (Wal*Mart is just north of Interstate 80)   If you want a campground, there is one at Recharge Lake  (just west of York off of Highway 81, do a google map search & you can find it easily enough. )
A P.S. here -- checked with the agency that maintains the campground at Recharge Lake & it is not likely to be open in early April.  They shut off & drain the water from the pipes & restroom over winter & don't usually open it back up until "danger of freezing" is past -- i.e. mid to late April.

The meet is held at the City Auditorium downtown, with plenty of parking to the north & west, but probably not where you'd want to settle down overnight.
