New whatizzit.

This tool is brass, about 2 inches long and looks sort of like a feeler gauge.  But when you pull out the "blade" , you find that it is a brass rod with a z shaped profile.   There are no visible markings on it.  Any ideas what it is or is used for?

You have a key for a Chinese pad lock.  Rough to explain.  I'll try to find a picture.  The keys look sooo simple, but they won't interchange.  I have two of them, one on each of two heavily carved camphor wood chests my mother brought from China circa 1946.

Wow, you got it dead on.  That is an exact match.  Now all I gotta do is find the lock.  But you saved me tons of time looking for a tool.  Thanks.
