Having a few hours to kill on Friday, in a town other than my own, I let my jeep find its way, sniffing out garage sale signs. Sure wish they would print bigger street directions. I found one ran by a 70something gent, nothing but tools and hardware! Axes, shovels, wrenches, even a Craftsman tool box. Nice fellow to talk to, took me out back to a garden shed full of more iron. Did come away with a handful, not at giveaway prices but decent. Picked out an Auto-Kit wrench, not the combo shorty, but a full size combo open end, no hole drilled in it either. Also a nice Bonney coe, and a few more I have to de-rust. Plus 2 of the heaviest screwdrivers I've ever seen. On the other side of town I followed signs around curvy streets, and those frustrating avenue-street staggered areas. Not a thing there that even tugged at my interests, except, a small Columbian vise. Original red paint, no hacksaw marks, but small, maybe 3 inch wide jaw. $20 and they wouldnt' budge. Didn't need it too bad, have a dozen vises, but for $10 I'd have grabbed it. Back at first sale, the old fellow said he would have his open in two or three weeks again. Think I'll go back.
