A different "Perfect Handle" pipe wrench
« on: September 04, 2014, 12:36:27 PM »
I think I saw one of these metal handled wrenches on a thread here, but couldn't find it.

This is a 10 in. Perfect handle pipe wrench with metal scales rather than the normal wood scales.  They do not appear to have been catalogued, but are definitely factory made.  A really nice job of fitting them.

There are no identifying marks on the scales.

Are these rare?  I've never seen one before, but that doesn't mean anything.

They are a lot harder to find then the standard wood handled ones. Not sure how much more in value they are worth. Nice find.

Likely a Trimont. They bought the wrench business from H D  Smith and continued the production of "Perfect Handle" wrenches.
Like this nut wrench seen on Martin J Donnelly's site.

Quote
Trimont Mfg. Co./Roxbury, Mass. : "Perfect Handle" Nut Wrench. All Steel Body. Near New Condition. Length: 9.00 Inches. The full story is not known, the Trimont Company either purchased or merged with the Perfect Handle Company. The result was these wrenches with forged steel handles in the shape of the wooden infill--an idea not unlike making a sweater out of heavy-gauge wire. The words, but not the music. A rare wrench in great shape. (FINE). This item was sold on July 24, 1998 for $55.00.

I have one of these, already shown on Tool Talk, which reads "H.D. Smith".

I have only ever seen one in the wild. Plenty in pictures.

It's been on my wish list, along with a million other things.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
