Found this in my wandering about today. Never seen one like it before.

Pawlock - Briles Mfg.

Anyone else have any of these? I assume it is made to "ratchet" in use by the moving pawl on one side of the open end jaw.

I also have not seen one. Patent 2797600 was issued in 1957 but must have had limited production or else some would have made it to Midwest.

I found the patent on datamp also, Jimwrench,  but other than a thread on another forum, not much else on this brand.

Seems to be well made. I'd like to find a whole set someday.

DATAMP shows the set of 5 wrenches

Briles Mfg. was in El Segundo, CA, ON jULY 13, 1962, they received the rights to the PAWLOCK
trademark.  that is now expired.

Briles was heavy in the aircraft fastener mfg. and sold out in 1999

A set  of 5 in a vinyl pouch  was pictured on pg. 10 of the June 2009 MVWC Newsletter -- it came out of the Richard Carter collection that sold in Feb. that year at Sedalia, MO.   On the pouch it has the patent number and "The Open End Ratchet Wrench" along with the manufacturer's name.   That was one of the few MVWC newsletters that had color photos (too expensive for copying).

I have a wrench in my flea market stuff somewhere that has a similar mechanism, but the pawl is much smaller.  The name on it is Wrenchking.  I had it on Ebay reasonably cheap for over a year with no interest.

I have a Wrench King also.. i am still not sure of it's use, the pin is different and the jaws are parallel. I wonder if it was to fit 2 sizes?

As noted in earlier posts in the thread, ( http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?number=2797600&typeCode=0 ) 2nd image shows a set in vinyl pouch - information on the pouch was primary source for the DATAMP entry.

Fred Wood,

in case you are not used to DATAMP,  above the sketch of the wrench, you will see two numbers,  1 & 2  if you click
on the 2, you will bring up the wrench set.

Here's a Craftsman not exactly the same but does have a similar feature:

And another similar one, the asian "Ratchet Master" with a moving part on both sides of the opening which allows the 3 wrenches to fit 24 sizes, oh yeah!:
