Mueller rat
« on: September 22, 2015, 11:07:50 AM »
Mueller ratchet poured by Wagner Castings of Decatur,Il  Man at auction where I purchased volunteered info that the (W) was Wagner mark and he had helped produce these. He didn't tell me what they were used for at Mueller's. Anybody know what usage was ? I'm guessing valve since it is for a square fitting.

Mueller is a valve type we bought a lot of back in the day. Bought out by Tyco (DBA Grinnell Supply Sales back then) in the '80's, I think.

Mueller water products is separate entity again with headquarters in Atlanta, Ga but still has a big presence in Decatur,IL including brass foundry and other facilities. This entity is big in municipal water products.

If it is heavy enough it may be the drill driver for a Mueller water main tapping outfit.
this link brings up a 1905 ad -- notice the ratchet on top

Turns out that this ratchet is part number 89038 and was used on E-4 tapping machine (1/4-1) in 1953. Got info from local Mueller museum.
