Bullard's- what is it?
« on: September 27, 2015, 08:22:47 AM »
Hi, great forum!

My wife collects old tools and my daughter brought this down from upstate NY as a gift.

It says BULLARD'S on it.  Bullard's is a company out of Bridgeport CT that makes vertical milling bores, which is, in essence, a vertical lathe.  I suspect this is just a piece off of one of their huge machines -- or is it?  It has all the aspects of a hand tool.  Haven't been able to find any images on the web of anything that resembles this!  Appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

I have had one of those carpet stretchers in my show inventory this summer.   I bet I was asked about 3-5 times a day what it was.  I get tired of answering the same question 1000 times, so in the Ebay stock it will go.

I usually put tags with an explanation of what it is on my oddball stuff.  It doesn't stop all the questions, but it does slow them down some...especially among those folks who can actually read.

Given the current state of Education, you best get to finding a way to put short videos together the human appearing creatures can access with their "smart" phone.  Watched 2 fools at the choke & puke conversing across the table on those contraptions Monday.
I'm pretty sure they're called SmartPhones cause the dam phone is smarter than the creature carrying it.

I'm pretty sure mine is.

& I don't think it has any loyalty to me,  either.

Mike,

That is a good idea.  I do that sometimes, but need to make it a habit.

I often get everyone asking for the price of one or two items.  Put a price on it, and that ends all the questions from people wanting it for 1.00.

I used to put a description on all my tags.  It just increased the workload a lot, and greatly increased the number of free museum people spending a long time in my booth.
