Antique store find
« on: January 23, 2016, 01:58:00 PM »
Hello, I found this at the local antique store. Owner thinks it is some sort of wrench, and maybe farm related? John Deere green? There is a raised C7 on the casting . Overall length is approx. 12", and the end with the tag measures approx. 1-1/2" x 2". The top part of the end with tag has a 1/4" wide x 1/8" deep groove on both sides, & the lower part has the same groove, but with vertical ribs that look like they would engage a gear? Cool looking piece!! Regards, Lou

To me it looks like a part to a machine?  the long thin end rides against some type of cam, slider, or the material the machine works with.  The oblong hole would be the pivot point,  when it raises or lifts the lever the other end with the teeth moves a gear that will change the motion to a rotary one. What it goes to? no idea! Maybe a hay baler since it is JD green?  The thin/lever end would feel the bale leaving the body of the baler then start the tying process? could be to a lumber mill?

Hello, Oldgoaly. I believe you are on the right track being a machine part. I took it to the local flea this morning and asked around, and everyone seems to have the same idea as yours. Great photos of your shoppe & projects!!! Thanks, Lou
