Two very small strange wrenches
« on: February 21, 2016, 05:38:08 PM »
No markings on either one

The top one is possibly a very old tool post wrench from a small lathe. It might not be because the jaws have a very small taper from front to rear, front obviously being a tiny bit wider

The bottom one, I've no idea.

Has the look and feel of an extremely OLD tool. The ripples in the surface make me think it was poured into a mold. Has a bit of a curve to it.
Has anyone ever seen something like this, can give me some direction ?

Both very cute little guys but no idea what there original purpose was.The taper on the jaws on the first guy don't look worn, look more like it was made that way ?????

Those look like snath wrenches used with scythes to adjust the angle of the blade.

Talked about on Tool Talk several times-

I'm confused (not an uncommon occurrance)....... just went and looked around and it seems that snath wrenches are all closed while these are open

OK, I dug out my scythe and looked for 10 minutes, and I ain't seeing how it adjusts for angle with such wrenches.  Somebody want to explain the procedure?

Phil, You don't have a deluxe model with the adjustable angle option.

Damned if I know.  I bought it to hang with my collection of tools I'll NEVER again use.  If I ever get thinking stupid or wrong all I gotta do is look at that collection to remind me where I came from.  I have a slugging wrench and sledge there too.  Swench beat hell out of that idea.
