Calipers & Who knows?
« on: June 02, 2016, 05:41:15 PM »
Hello, The calipers at the top of the photo are unmarked. I believe these are referred to as Blacksmith's Double Calipers. After looking around, most only seem to have a caliper at one end, this has what I believe are both Inside & Outside Calipers, hand forged? The other piece is hand made from a thick file, any idea what the maker was thinking? or what use? Thanks, Lou

I never saw a pair of calipers like that before but there is a set on eBay asking $395.95 or best offer.

The second item not sure of the size but could it be a foot rest or boot scraper?

Hello, I also looked at the seller you mentioned. Pretty high prices, I wonder how much gets sold. I work at a much lower profit margin, sometimes I buy it for $!0.00 and sell it for $8.00 :-)

But there is also that rare tool at the bottom of the $10.00 bucket of tools, that brings $100.00 at auction. Doesn't happen very often, but it gets me right back out there!!!!!!!!!!!

The bottom one may be a burn auger, used to make a hole by heating it up and twisting it back and forth through the woods as it burns.

First thing that popped into my head on that second one is a farriers hoof pick, but upon research, looks like the pointy bits on those are usually bent 90 degrees, so probably not that...

ive just started collecting tools.....starting off with Sidchrome  Australian made
