Hand Forged?

Hello, This was in with some other stuff at this morning's flea. I am guessing hand forged? The wing nuts have a great look. The vendor told me it is a mop head, at 5:30 in the morning, it sounded good. About 10" across the frame, and it opens up to approx. 1" . Thanks, Lou

 Lou,  a mop head holder sounds feasible.

 many moons ago as a child, I can remember a couple that my mom used, one was  two square pieces of wood with bolt & wing nuts
 that she would have to take apart to clean the mop head.

 then later on, she had one of the heavy wire types that were like a springy clamp,  that was quicker and easier to change.

 it will be interesting to read other ideas.

I think you're right. Never saw one as old as this one, but I do remember the heavy wire types.

Surely some "Old Salts" here who remember using something like this to swab the decks of the Battleship Maine?

Hello, Guys. Thanks for the replies, general consensus seems to be mop head.Always good to find such an item that has survived, rust, pitting, and all. No cleaning will be done on this, or, with this!!! Thanks again, Lou
