A pair of specialty hammers... one Atha!
« on: August 12, 2016, 05:47:09 PM »
Hello there,

I played hooky from work today to go look at an anvil at a yard sale... but that was far and away the least of my purchases, haha, I came home with a couple hundred pounds of steel, including these two little beauties!

The Atha I'm pretty sure is a body hammer, yes? It's faces are flawless, very happy with that baby.

The slightly curved one... I think I've seen used inside of radiuses when dishing sheet metal, is that correct? I'm not sure who made this one, it is stamped "Germany" and has a little arrow with a circle in it, reminiscent of the old A&W logo... It has one blunt rounded end, and the other end is a perfectly flat rectangle...

I've got similar hammers, left is a silver or metalsmith's German, I would guess Peddinghaus, but I don't think there were other markings on mine? I just put them back on the wall this week. Had taken all the hammers off the outside wall to remove 1/2 the windos in the workshop (used them in 2 other out buildings)
right is autobody I'm thinking a Bonney

Interesting, I wonder what those other markings indicate, or what they might say about its age...

The body hammer is definitely an Atha though, it has the great big horseshoe and "A" on it.
