Tool Holder?
« on: September 26, 2016, 05:34:01 PM »
Hello, I found this yesterday at the flea. Overall length without tool in jaws is 6". The knurled barrel turns, and opens & closes the jaws to hold the tools. There are 8 tools under the end cap, the usual asst. , awl, screwdrivers, chisel, gouge, tack puller. No visible markings anywhere. I am trying to find out what I can about this tool, manufacturer? patent info? end user? . The jaws do not close fully, and I am wondering about the other openings in the jaws, they are too large to hold the included tools. Regards, Lou

I have one. It is marked Bergman Tool Co Buffalo N Y on the end of the handle. Has nine bits inside which fit in the end of the jaws. The jaws can also serve as a wrench.
I found this listing on Worthpoint that says- "Vintage Metal multi tool much like the rosewood types that were so common..this was made by the Bergman Tool Co. of Buffalo NY in the early 1900's..Bergman was known for making wrenches and pliers this tool is not even listed..it is the only one I have seen..it has 8 tools in the handle and it looks like the chuck opens to be a wrench..the chuck is notched to hold the tools tightly..the tool is 6" long and in excellent condition."

Hello, Papaw. Thanks, that was quick. I have heard of the Bergman Tool Co., may have had one of their tools here a while ago. I did not realize that they were a NY Co. only about 140 miles from where I live. I may have to start another free trial with Worthpoint!!!!!!!!! Thanks again, Lou

Hello, Papaw. Your example of this tool is in much better condition than mine. Former owner used the end of the cap for a hammer, label is long gone!!!!!!!!! Was there a specific trade , i.e. leatherworkers, carpenters, or was it the latest , greatest, multi-tool for the masses? Thanks again, Lou
